For the ‘Education Bridge’ project, LSM is looking for enthusiastic volunteers and/or students who, as mentors, want to guide young migrants in their learning process and in education.
About the Education Bridge project
LSM offers young migrants help in bridging cultural differences by guiding them in their learning process within education. We do this by building a bridge between the education system of the country of origin and the education system in the Netherlands. We aim to have a positive influence on the learning process of children and young people.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for enthusiastic colleagues who work together on a voluntary basis to help young migrants with their learning process and/or to help them bridge the educational system of their country of origin and the educational system in the Netherlands.
Job description
In this role you help children and adolescents, whose education has been interrupted by migration or flight, find their way in the Dutch school system. Missed years of school, the language barrier and differences between the school system and teaching methods in their home country and the Netherlands hinder children’s education and can lead to demotivation and a feeling of inferiority. For example, you support them in doing their homework or with aspects of the curriculum that they find difficult.
Job requirements
You are willing to help children with their schoolwork in one of the following subjects: mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, Dutch, French, German and English.
You take into account that children’s learning process is seriously interrupted and that you cannot always rely on prior knowledge. Therefore, be prepared to explain concepts in different ways.
You don’t have to be a math genius or speak perfect English! It is more important to listen to the children, find out what their personal obstacles are and encourage them.
You want to have a positive influence on children’s education
Working hours
The guidance will probably take place weekly or once every two weeks on Tuesday or Sunday afternoon/evening. This depends on your availability.
What we offer

Relevant pedagogical experience and knowledge of the learning process and the educational process to be bridged.
