Building a Multilingual, Lively Local Democracy – Together
With pride, LSM launches its new project: “Multilingual Lively Local Democracy.”
This project is based on one clear belief: democracy only truly works when everyone can take part.
– Whether you were born here or arrived recently.
– Whether you speak Dutch or another language.
Your voice matters. Your opinion is valuable. Your participation counts.
Democracy? Not obvious for everyone.
Many people – especially those with a migration background – are left out.
Not because they don’t want to join in, but because the system shuts them out.
Too complex. Too much language. Too far from their daily life.
In many countries, democracy is just an empty word – a system without a voice.
If you come from such a place, it’s normal not to trust the system here right away.
That’s exactly why democracy here is not automatic – it must be learned, felt, and fought for.
Integration = learning how to take part
Real integration means: learning how to have influence.
How to speak, how to listen, how to make change.
It starts with language, knowledge, trust – and space to grow.
That’s why our project “Multilingual Lively Local Democracy” is not a luxury.
It’s a necessity.
We make politics clear. In many languages. More human.
So everyone can join the conversation. Share ideas. Help make decisions.
Because a democracy without everyone is not a true democracy.
This must – and can – be different.
Our mission: an accessible and inclusive democracy
With this project, we want to bring politics closer to the people.
We make participation simple, clear, and multilingual.
We organize meetings, workshops, and events in different languages.
We explain how local democracy works. And most importantly: we listen.
We give space to voices that are often ignored.
True democracy is not only about representation – it’s also about participation.
It’s not only about voting, but also about thinking along, joining in, and helping to decide.
What does LSM do in practice?
We connect. Together with partners, we actively reach out to people who are often not heard. Through multilingual campaigns, talks in neighborhoods, and places where people feel at home.
We represent. LSM takes a seat at local democracy tables, as the voice of newcomers, migrants, expats, and other underrepresented groups.
We inform. In cooperation with municipalities, we support integration and citizenship education. Because understanding is the first step to joining in.
Join us. Think with us. Build with us.
A lively democracy needs people.
People who ask questions, speak up, want to understand others, connect, and build a shared future.
Do you want to be part of a new social movement for more inclusion and involvement?
Do you want to join a growing trend of people working together for an open society – where free thinking and freedom of speech are truly for everyone?
Become a volunteer at LSM and help shape this movement locally.
Because change starts with people like you.
Join us. Speak up.
Together, we’ll make democracy more lively, more inclusive, and more resilient – in all languages, for all people.
