Are you looking for satisfaction by helping children in the learning process and education? Do you want to stimulate children’s language development? Or do you want to gain special work experience to fill the gaps of migrants in the integration process during their early years?
The Leiden Migrant Support Desk has a vacancy for enthusiastic volunteers/students who enjoy helping children!
Kids oasis for children from 4 to 10 years old
The Kids Oasis is an initiative of the Leiden Migrant Support Desk to fill the gaps in the integration process of migrant children. This reduces inequality and builds strategically sustainable development, so that children are equipped with the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to bring fruitful change to society.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for enthusiastic colleagues who work together on a voluntary basis, with the aim of reading to migrant children. It is important for these children that they have access to appealing books and stories. This stimulates their language development and brings people into contact with each other. A good story can lead to creativity, relaxation and good imaging. Books can also provide children with emotional support.
In addition to the reading, an activity will always be offered that fits the story. Think of a craft assignment or a game. The children’s book is the guideline here, but the children are encouraged to work actively, in collaboration with other children.
What we expect
• You feel and think internationally and multiculturally.
• You want to enthusiastically stimulate children’s language development by reading to them and offering activities that match the story.
• You are motivated to contribute to the Leiden Migrant Support Desk.
• You can have a positive influence on children’s education.
The times are on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday, weekly or every two weeks, depending on your availability.
The reading language is Dutch or English.
What we offer
• An interesting position in a dynamic, cultural, social and pleasant environment.
• Free participation in all cultural activities of the Foundation, such as café, music, concerts, etc.
• Relevant pedagogical experience and knowledge of the learning process, bridging the children’s former education systems to the Dutch education system.
• Opportunities to learn more about other languages and cultures.
• Opportunities to conduct socio-cultural learning process research.
• Flexible working hours: between two and a maximum of five hours per week.
